8850 Conductivity/Resistivity Transmitter - Mounting Options

The ability to integrally mount conductivity transmitters has been of interest for some end-users looking to minimize the use of panel space or eliminate the need for an enclosure. Now by using off the shelf hardware from Swagelok an integral mount is possible. Swagelok manufactures the bored-through fittings that work well with the +GF+SIGNET 0.1, 1.0 and 20.0 cell sensors (not 0.01 due to the short length). By utilizing the Swagelok fitting one can reverse the supplied 3/4" Polypro fitting and connect it directly to the model 3-8052 3/4" NPT Adapter Kit. This allows for an integral assembly. Some adjustment of sensor depth is also possible. Once "swaged" the sensor can be routinely removed and will always be re-inserted to the same depth due to the crimping of a metal ring to the sensor body. For system design, continue to use the sensor pressure and temperature specifications. Properly swaged fittings do not de-rate the sensor specifications. The approximate price for the Swagelok fittings is $13 to $20 and can be ordered through their distribution (www.swagelok.com).

Additional tip: When installing in small pipe sizes (1/2"; 3/4"; 1") we recommend using an oversize tee for the sensor installation (i.e., use a 1-1/2" reducing tee with a dead leg of the fitting, 3/4" NPT thread). This prevents any restriction in flow; provides a greater surface area for securing the piping/sensor/transmitter and can greatly ease installation. The cost difference is negligible.
